The Qiu Shi Awards are granted to exceptional Chinese scientists across disciplines including Life Sciences & Medicine, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering & Materials Science, Chemistry, and Sustainability Science. The Foundation’s efforts are inextricably linked to the judgment of its advisory board, the impartiality of the selection process and a desire to remain relevant in the scientific world. Qiu Shi Laureate Highlight: Tu Youyou
Ms. Tu Youyou, the leader of the 1996 Qiu Shi Outstanding Scientific Team studying the anti-malaria drug artemisinin, went on to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2015. This marked the first time that a Chinese scientist received a Nobel Prize for scientific research conducted in China. It remains the highest accolade received in the medical field in China to date and represents the greatest recognition for achievements in traditional Chinese medicine.
