Professor HAN Qide


Professor HAN Qide (韩启德)was born in Cixi, Zhejiang Province in 1945. He studied medicine at the First Medical College of Shanghai (now known as Fudan University Shanghai Medical College) from 1962 to 1968. Dr. Han then practiced as clinician in many hospitals in Shaanxi Province from 1968 to 1979. He did his postgraduate study at the Xi'an Medical College (now Xi'an Jiao Tong University Health Science Center). After graduation, he became a faculty member in the Department of Pathophysiology at the Beijing Medical University (now Peking University Health Science Center). He was a visiting scholar at the Emory University School of Medicine from 1985 to 1987.



Dr. Han served as the last President of Beijing Medical University. He later became Dean of the Peking University Health Science Center, and Executive Vice-president of Peking University after the two schools merged. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997.



From 2000 to 2002, Dr. Han served as vice-chairman of the Central Committee of Jiusan Society, and then its chairman since then.  He is the current chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology (since 2006), and has served as vice chairman of the 10th and 11th Standing Committee of the NPC, and vice chairman of the 12th CPP CC National Committee. For his research, Dr. Han had received the Top Class Award for Science and Technology Progress by the State Education Commission in 1993, Third Class Award of the State Natural Sciences in 1995, and First Class Award of the Natural Sciences for institutions of higher education in 2000.
