查濟民先生

Mr. CHA Chi Ming

 

Mr. CHA Chi Ming was born in 1914 in Haining, Zhejiang Province, and began his textile manufacturing career in China. He established the China Dyeing Works, Ltd in 1949 in Hong Kong, which soon developed into one of the world leaders in the textiles industry. Since the 1960s, Mr CHA had expanded his enterprises into a global conglomerate with diversified businesses in textiles, property development, technology, financial services and healthcare. Its worldwide operation employs over 25,000 people and a number of its member companies are listed on global stock exchanges. 

 

Mr. CHA had contributed millions of dollars to establish the Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation, an independent organization aiming to award and recognize exemplary scientists and innovators. He had also set up the Sang Ma Trust Fund to promote textile technologies, and the All Nigerian Foundation to improve social welfare in Nigeria. In addition, he and his wife, Madam Liu Bie Ju, had also established the Chang Zhou Liu Guojun Vocational Educational Centre to advocate technical education and cultivate outstanding students to serve the industrial sector.

 

He participated in the drafting of the Basic Law of Hong Kong and had served as a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the National People’s Congress. He was the recipient of various honorary doctorate degrees conferred by schools such as the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and served as Honorary Professors of Peking University and Zhejiang University in China. he was also the recipient of several honorary medals, being one of the first batch of honorees receiving Hong Kong’s highest award, the Grand Bauhinia Medal.

 

Mr. CHA passed away on March 28, 2007 in Hong Kong.
